Équipe ADFX

On Thursday (August 13), the Nasdaq rose 1.35%, the S&P 500 edged up 0.75%, the Pound fell slightly by 0.06%, Gold dropped 1.33%, and US Crude Oil slid 1.73%. Following the release of the US Producer Price Index (PPI) monthly rate, price action across assets diverged: Gold moved lower, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 showed strength, while the Pound and US Crude Oil performed poorly. Today, market focus shifts to the US Retail Sales monthly rate, followed by the US Core Retail Sales monthly rate and the French Consumer Price Index (CPI) monthly rate.

Gold

Gold (XAUUSD) closed at 4,348.88 on Thursday, down 1.33% for the day, as precious metals underperformed. It hit a 20-session low during intraday trading and closed near the day’s lows, with selling pressure showing no signs of easing. The 5-day moving average (4,370.99) continues to act as overhead resistance, with the closing price remaining below this line. To the upside, watch 4,450.00 (psychological level, previous day’s high of 4,441.35), while downside support is seen at 4,300.00 (psychological level, 38.2% Fibonacci level). Tonight’s market focus is on the US Retail Sales monthly rate: if the data is positive, it will favor the US Dollar and Gold may come under pressure again, at which point focus should be on the defense of downside support.

If 4,300.00 is further surrendered, short-term corrective pressure will increase; only a reclaim of 4,450.00 would improve the current weak technical structure.
